Bildiğimize göre bu günümüze ulaşan en eski su saati, Fas şehrinin Karaviyin muvakkithanesinde bulunuyor. Miladi 1362 yılunda yapilmiştir. Depoda bulunan suyun akışı 24 saatin her saniyesinde aynı süratle olacak şekilde ayarlanıyor. Depodaki şamandıranın inişi ile kazanılan hareket bir taraftan her dört dakikada bir yelkovanı ileri sürüyor, diğer taraftan küçük ve büyük bilyeler taşıyan iki arabayi çekiyor. Çanlar içine düşen büyük bilyeler saat başlarını küçük bilyeler geçen dört dakikayı gösteriyorlar. Ayrıca her saat başında çanların arkasında bulunan kaptıardan biri açılıyor.

Model of the Water Clock from Fez
This is, as far as we know, the oldest extant water clock. It was constructed in 1362 and belongs to the room allocated to t astronomer of the Qarawiyin Mosque in Fez who is in charge of the calculation of prayer times. The water infow was calculated so exactly that it remained uniform every second through 24 hours. The sinking of the float in the basin causes a minute pointer on a dial to move every four minutes and this, on the other hand, causes the pulling of two carriages, the one loaded with small balls, the other with big ones. By falling into ringing bowls, the big balls indicate the full hours, while the small one indicate an intervall of four minutes. Moreover, every full hour one of the doors behind the bowls opens.
